It was proposed to cancel several transport routes in Yekaterinburg.

Yekaterinburg’s route network remains one of the most discussed topics among city residents. Many passengers are still dissatisfied with public transport: some routes are overloaded, others are inconveniently routed.

One long-standing problem of the city’s transport system is route duplication. This is a situation where several buses run along almost the same path: the first one picks up all the passengers, and the next runs half-empty.

It would be more sensible to eliminate such overlaps and redirect the freed-up vehicles to areas where routes are lacking. E1.RU discussed this idea with experts, and they gave two examples of how duplication could be reduced without harming passengers.

New route to Solnechny and cancellation of bus No. 054

Currently bus No. 054 runs from Siniye Kamni through the center to Solnechny, with roughly half of its route overlapping with route No. 54 (Siniye Kamni — center — Krasnolesye).

It is proposed to redirect bus No. 76 toward Solnechny and at the same time cancel No. 054 to remove the duplication.

For passengers such changes would be beneficial: instead of the medium-sized buses operating on No. 054, large high-capacity vehicles would operate on route No. 76.

On the map below the new section of bus No. 76’s route is marked in green. This change will improve transport links for the Siniye Kamni, Solnechny and UNTs microdistricts.

If 20 large buses are deployed on the route, the interval between vehicles would be about 10–13 minutes despite its length.

      Cancellation of trolleybus No. 39

Trolleybus No. 39 (Tobacco Factory — Belinskogo) is planned to be cancelled. Almost its entire route is duplicated by trolleybuses No. 27, 31 and 36, as well as buses No. 47, 51, 60, 77, 83 and 86.

Moreover, articulated buses (“garmoshkas”) carrying up to 200 passengers have recently begun operating on bus No. 51, which follows the same route.

The trolleybuses freed up by the closure of route No. 39 are proposed to be transferred to line No. 25 (Botanika — center — Vtuzgorodok), where passenger flows are significantly higher.
