An elderly bicycle courier died while making a delivery in the Urals.

On Saturday, November 1, a farewell will be held in Chelyabinsk for the "beloved grandpa" — the most famous bike courier of the South Ural capital, Alexander Shkrobot. The man, who was 64, died during another delivery while in the saddle of his bicycle, reports 74.RU.

"What grandpa? By today's standards he wouldn't even have lived to retirement!" wrote one of the portal's readers upon learning of Alexander's death.

Alexander Shkrobot was called "grandpa" not because of his age but because of his fatherly attitude toward those around him and his outward resemblance to Ded Moroz, the portal explains; in 2021 the site's followers raised money for the now-deceased courier to buy a new bicycle after his had been stolen.

In the comments, a 74.RU reader recalled that the Chelyabinsk resident took up cycling after suffering a heart attack, for the sake of physical exercise.

"I saw him from my window every day. The Bluetooth speaker on his handlebars was large; he was always cheerful and tidy, with a magnificent beard. Like Santa Claus delivering gifts to someone," recalled a third reader.

Alexander Shkrobot is survived by his wife and daughter. Residents have already expressed a desire to install unnamed sculptures and monuments in Chelyabinsk not only to figures of the past but also to such bright people as Alexander Shkrobot was.
