Scammers are cheating Russians out of money under the guise of part-time work.
Scammers have come up with a new method of fraud — "side gigs" on marketplaces.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported a new type of scam involving promises of extra earnings on marketplaces. Perpetrators post ads in Telegram offering easy tasks that require no special training — such as adding an item to favorites, hitting "like," or leaving a comment.
Once the victim begins to trust the organizers of the "gig," the scammers move on to the next stage. Under the pretext of "buying out the item," "raising the rating," or "activating the task," they persuade people to transfer money to the accounts provided. After that, contact with them is cut off.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged citizens to be more careful and not to transfer money to strangers, even if an offer seems plausible.
