A Sverdlovsk deputy urged women who became pregnant after being raped to give birth.
Vyacheslav Vegner, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region from Yekaterinburg, suggested that women give birth to children conceived as a result of violence and hand them over to childless families. In an interview with the OTV television channel he said that women who have become victims of violence and do not wish to continue the pregnancy should be persuaded of the value of the life of the unborn child. According to Vegner, such cases make up "a small percentage," but each of them requires an individual approach.
"If a woman is psychologically struggling, a doctor and a psychologist should explain that this is a living life, and that others need this life today," the deputy said.
He suggested that women who are not ready to raise such children could hand them over to families who cannot have their own children.
"There are many childless couples in our country standing in line to adopt. One can help a woman get through the pregnancy, and the child — to find a new family. A psychologist should explain: if life has arisen, then it was willed by God," Vegner added.
