Temperatures in Sverdlovsk Oblast will drop sharply to −15°C.
Forecasters at the Ural Hydrometeorological Center warn of a sharp cold snap in Sverdlovsk Oblast. Already on the night of November 3 temperatures in the north of the region will drop to -15°C; during the day they are expected to be between -2 and -7°C. In Yekaterinburg it will be around -6°C at night and about -2°C during the day.
The weather will not improve on November 4. Hoarfrost is forecast across the oblast; at night temperatures will fall to between -15 and -5°C, and during the day to between -5 and 0°C. In Yekaterinburg -8°C is expected at night and about -2°C during the day.
On November 5 forecasters predict snowfalls and the formation of the first persistent snow cover. Precipitation will also affect Yekaterinburg — wet snow is expected; at night temperatures will fall to -5°C, and during the day it will warm to +1°C.
On November 6 precipitation will weaken but not stop. Most of the region will see wet snow, in the south mixed with rain. In Yekaterinburg temperatures will be between -3 and 0°C.
According to meteorologist Alexey Pulin, an Arctic air mass will spread across Sverdlovsk Oblast from the eastern side of an anticyclone strengthening over the Polar Urals and northern European Russia. The cold masses will also penetrate the Southern Urals, where the shifting cyclone “Lothar” will bring precipitation: rain in the south of Chelyabinsk Oblast and snow in the central part.
“There will be virtually no daytime warming; temperatures will fall during the day, and by evening most districts of the oblast are expected to be between -2 and -7°C. Clearings will begin in the northern half of the oblast, which will lead to additional cooling of the near-surface air layers,” the expert noted.
