A woman suspected of murdering her underage daughter in Chelyabinsk has been detained.
A woman who fled the apartment where her 5-year-old daughter was later found murdered has been detained, the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Chelyabinsk Region reports.
Chelyabinsk detectives detained the suspect in Bashkortostan; she is being questioned. The investigation plans to charge her and petition the court to remand her in custody.
According to the 74.RU portal, the woman had been renting a one-room apartment in a new building that was being let out short-term.
The woman was detained in the city of Uchaly. At the moment of her detention she was heavily intoxicated, RT's Russian service reports. A source in law enforcement told RT that the woman denies her guilt but does not point to others who may be involved in the crime and offers no alternative explanations.
According to the RT source, the woman borrowed money from acquaintances under various pretexts and each time failed to repay it, accumulating considerable debts. In Chelyabinsk she planned to earn money by doing massages and manicures.
Forensic experts established that the girl was killed ten days before the body was discovered. The body was wrapped in a black cellophane bag. The exact circumstances of what happened are not yet clear. The mother repeatedly insists she is innocent. She has periodic hysterical fits and often cries.
Law enforcement also identified the child's father and informed him of the girl's death. He will be questioned in the near future. So far he has shown no interest in what happened. Investigators are now determining what the relationship was between the woman and her live-in partner.
Recall that a report about the discovery of the body of a 5-year-old girl in an apartment on 250-letiya Chelyabinska Street was received by the police on November 3. The owner of the apartment discovered the child's body inside the sofa. During the examination, at least four stab and slash wounds were found on the body. A criminal case has been opened under clause "v" of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of a minor).
