A reckless elderly driver was killed in a crash near Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
An elderly driver died in a three‑vehicle crash on Monday, November 17 at the 2nd kilometer of the Verkhnyaya Pyshma–Sredneuralsk road, the Directorate of the State Traffic Inspectorate of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region reports.
The crash occurred at 3:10 p.m. According to preliminary information, a 71‑year‑old driver of a Lada Vesta, driving at an unsafe speed, failed to maintain a safe distance from a Daewoo Matiz ahead and collided with it; after the impact he entered the oncoming lane, where he collided with a Kia Rio.
As a result of the crash the driver of the Lada Vesta was killed. Chemical-toxicological examinations have been ordered to determine the condition of the deceased driver at the time of the accident. The deceased resident of Verkhnyaya Pyshma had previously been held administratively liable 11 times.
In addition, a 3‑year‑old girl, a passenger in the Kia Rio, was injured. The child had been transported in a child restraint device in the rear seat, but despite this was hospitalized with various injuries at Children’s Hospital No. 9.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
It is recalled that a similar crash occurred the day before in Yekaterinburg. On Shcherbakova Street a driver first hit a vehicle traveling in the same direction, and after the impact moved into the oncoming lane, where at that time a Hyundai Accent with a 5‑year‑old child was traveling. The child died in hospital of the injuries sustained. The transportation of the young passenger had been carried out with gross violations.
