A man who threatened to detonate a grenade in an apartment building was detained in Pervouralsk.

In Pervouralsk, a man who, while drunk, yesterday took his live-in partner hostage and threatened to blow up the house with a grenade was detained, reports KP‑Yekaterinburg.

The incident occurred late yesterday evening at the building at 8 Malysheva Street in Pervouralsk, writes KP‑Yekaterinburg. The man, reportedly in an unstable state, took a woman and a child hostage and threatened to detonate a grenade.

For safety, the security forces who arrived on the scene evacuated the building’s residents. Local people hurriedly moved their cars away from the building.

Word of the troublemaker’s arrest came at around half past midnight. No grenades were found on him, and the child was also not in the apartment, Colonel Valery Gorelykh, head of the press service of the Sverdlovsk Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, told KP‑Yekaterinburg.

“It was an attempt to frighten,” he said, explaining the troublemaker’s motives. “The evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes.”

The detainee was taken to the police station for questioning.

Fifty-two-year-old Azat F. has multiple prior convictions, including for intentional infliction of bodily harm.

A criminal case has been opened by the Pervouralsk investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region under Part 2 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal deprivation of liberty).
