In the Urals, an "expeditor" who had agreed to deliver a shipment dumped it and reported it as stolen.

In the Sverdlovsk Region, a court issued a ruling in a civil lawsuit filed by the owner of a cargo against a forwarder. The man agreed to deliver a consignment of pipeline connector parts to another district, but he dumped them in a forest and claimed the cargo had been stolen from him.

The case was heard by the Artemovsky City Court, where ZAO “Vodoley” filed a claim against Alexey Ch. A contract for the carriage of a consignment of pipeline connector parts was concluded between ZAO “Vodoley” and Alexey Ch. in September 2024. The consignment, with a total value of 319,276 rubles, was collected by Ch. from the supplier’s warehouse in Pervouralsk for delivery to the recipient company in Artemovsky. However, the next day the carrier reported that the cargo had been stolen from his “Gazelle” van, which had been parked in the yard.

At the same time, Ch. did not report it to the police (which aroused the cargo owners’ suspicions). The company Vodoley later filed a report with the Artemovsky police department.

Police officers established that Ch. had staged the theft. A witness came forward who saw the man throw the pipeline parts out of the bed of the “Gazelle” in a wooded area and drive away. The witness was able to identify both the driver and the “Gazelle.” However, the initiation of a criminal case was refused.

In the civil court, the representative of ZAO “Vodoley” asked the court to recover from Ch. the value of the lost property in the amount of 319,276 rubles and the expenses for payment of the state fee. The court granted the plaintiff’s claims in full.

During the proceedings it became known that Ch., not being a sole proprietor, had no right to enter into a contract for freight transportation. The court’s decision has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed.
