The Hong Kong flu has arrived in Russia.
Influenza incidence continues to rise in Russia; 2.9 thousand cases were detected over the week, Interfax reports citing Rospotrebnadzor. In addition, COVID-19 incidence has also increased.
Among circulating influenza viruses, strain A (H3N2) predominates.
For the week of November 10 to 16, about 2.9 thousand influenza cases and 7.1 thousand COVID-19 cases were registered. Compared with the previous week, the number of COVID-19 cases increased by 1.5 thousand.
The seasonal rise in respiratory infections persists. "The incidence of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) is also showing an upward trend," Rospotrebnadzor noted.
As part of the nationwide influenza vaccination campaign, more than 66 million citizens have been vaccinated, which amounts to 45.2% of the country's population, the agency specified.
Earlier it was reported that adult vaccination rates in Sverdlovsk Oblast this year were unsatisfactory. Notably, two years ago a 12-year-old girl traveling on the Tyumen–Adler train suddenly died from influenza of that A strain. More than a hundred children who were traveling in the group with the teenager fell ill.
As for COVID, in May Ivan Konovalov, an infectious disease physician and Candidate of Medical Sciences at Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, said that the new coronavirus infection in most cases now manifests itself indistinguishably from other acute respiratory viral infections.
