For a year and a half, a man from Yekaterinburg transferred money to his girlfriend for a non-existent child.
A resident of Kurgan Oblast deceived a man from Yekaterinburg out of nearly half a million rubles under the pretext that they had a child together.
A 28-year-old resident of Yekaterinburg contacted the duty unit of the Shumikhinsky Department of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Kurgan Oblast reported.
As the victim explained, due to his professional activities he did not have much free time, so he posted a profile on one of the dating sites. At the end of May 2023 it was answered by a 24-year-old resident of the town of Shumikha. Virtual communication began, which quickly developed into a romance.
When the man was on vacation, the woman visited him. Some time later she told the Yekaterinburg man that she was expecting his child. The man began actively transferring money to her, covering all related expenses — for medical services and for purchases for their future child.
In December 2024 the woman notified the victim of the birth of the firstborn and even sent photos of the baby as confirmation. The man insisted on formally establishing paternity, but the woman began to evade resolving this issue while continuing to ask for money for various needs.
Because he was on a long business trip, the man turned to lawyers for help with the paperwork, paying for their trip to Kurgan Oblast. However the woman avoided the lawyers in every possible way. Then the father's representatives filed an application with the court to establish paternity, but the defendant did not appear at the hearing.
When the lawyers contacted law enforcement to clarify the circumstances, they discovered that the woman had no children registered to her.
An investigator of the intermunicipal department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia "Shumikhinsky" has opened a criminal case against the 24-year-old local resident under part 3 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). In total she deceived the man out of half a million rubles, the police said. The suspect has been placed under a written undertaking not to leave the area and to observe proper behavior.
It is worth noting that a similar case occurred in Perm Krai, where a local woman led a man on with their non‑existent child for three years.
