In the center of Yekaterinburg, a historic estate will be demolished to make way for an "office building".
An office center is planned to be built on the site of the Toporkov House. A historical and cultural assessment concluded that construction of the new facility would not harm nearby monuments.
The building at 6 Chernyshevsky Street was attempted to be demolished as early as January 2024, but activists appealed to the now-former governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev for support, after which the Office for the State Protection of Cultural Heritage issued a warning to the owner. Later the agency refused to include the Toporkov House on the list of protected sites: an invited specialist concluded that the structure "is not associated with key historical events or significant figures."
Now the owner intends to build a two-story office center on the plot, which is to fit harmoniously into the historic streetscape of Chernyshevsky Street.
