"To winter quarters." The lions at the Yekaterinburg Zoo have had their enclosure redesigned for the winter.
The renovated winter enclosure for African lions at the Yekaterinburg Zoo invites residents and visitors of the Ural capital to come and see it. In the interiors of the African lions Erni and Mira’s "winter quarters," polymer-concrete decorations imitating a natural landscape have been installed and real trees have "grown," the Yekaterinburg Zoo press service reported.
In short, the enclosure has changed significantly, and the lions are now getting accustomed to the new surroundings.
"All of this is, without a doubt, part of environmental enrichment and adds variety to the animals' lives. Such changes are important for zoo residents. Each new object arouses interest, provides opportunities to maintain natural instincts — exploration, marking their territory with scents — and serves as an additional place for play and rest," the zoo's press service explained.
The lions can be seen on the first floor of the "Southern" pavilion. It is worth recalling that earlier this spring the lions lost a small cub.
