In Yekaterinburg, criminal investigators detained a woman from another city two months after she stole from a shopping center.
The theft from a sportswear store located in a mall on Shcherbakova Street was committed at the end of September, the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry’s directorate for Yekaterinburg reported today, November 26.
In the evening an unknown woman entered the sales area. After making sure there were no store employees nearby, she grabbed several sets of clothing and hurried toward the exit past the checkout area. The store’s owners estimated the value of the stolen goods at 20,000 rubles.
The theft was carried out, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit of Precinct No. 13 established, by a 30-year-old resident of the Sysert district with no prior convictions. During questioning the detainee confessed. Part of the stolen property was seized during a search of the suspect’s home; she had sold the remainder through third parties.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft). The suspect has been placed under a travel restriction in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the area; she faces up to five years in prison. Police are checking her involvement in other similar incidents.
