Alexey Fayustov's candidacy wins the election for dean of the Faculty of Journalism at Ural Federal University.

Alexey Fayustov’s candidacy was supported in the voting for dean of the Faculty of Journalism at UrFU. On a five-point scale he scored 4.65 points, the counting commission reported, Kommersant‑Ural writes.

Until early October Alexey Fayustov had for more than five years held the position of Vice‑Rector for Information Policy. Since October Fayustov has been serving as acting dean of the journalism faculty, replacing the legendary Boris Lozovsky.

The dean’s post has remained vacant since last year, when Ivan Nekrasov left it following a scandal. The election for a new dean was postponed several times after that.

Fayustov’s candidacy was the only one on the ballot, Kommersant‑Ural reports. 105 people took part in the vote. They rated the candidate’s professionalism (4.8 points), his managerial abilities (4.74 points) and the program he presented (4.4 points).

During the defense of his program Alexey Fayustov outlined plans to open a Department of AI Technologies in the Creative Industries, as well as to expand the faculty’s technical equipment, including opening a computer lab with the support of sponsors.

Among the main tasks in educational activities Fayustov named improving the quality of teaching; among the challenges are a reduction in fee‑paying places and the lack of state‑funded admissions to the part‑time program.

Alexey Fayustov’s candidacy for the new dean will be reviewed by a selection committee chaired by UrFU’s First Vice‑Rector Dmitry Bugrov, after which it will be submitted for consideration to UrFU’s acting rector Ilya Obabkov.
