A Yekaterinburg resident has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing his two stepdaughters.

The Akademichesky District Court of Yekaterinburg today, January 5, imposed a preventive measure on a local resident accused of sexually abusing two minors — his stepdaughters, reports "KP-Yekaterinburg."

The businessman's wife — the mother of the 13- and 8-year-old girls — filed a report with law enforcement. The girls are not his biological children but had been adopted by him. The couple have a third, younger child together.

A criminal case has been opened by the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation under paragraph "b" of part 4 of Article 132 of the Russian Criminal Code ("violent sexual acts committed against a person under the age of 14").

On Monday, January 5, the Akademichesky District Court of Yekaterinburg, at the request of the investigator, ordered that the accused be held in custody for two months. The man faces up to 20 years in prison.

He himself says his wife's report is revenge for an affair she recently learned about and denies the charges, a source familiar with the situation told "KP-Yekaterinburg."
