Details of the fatal crash on the Serov Highway have emerged.
Traffic police officers established the preliminary circumstances of the fatal crash that occurred on the afternoon of January 5 near Nizhny Tagil.
According to preliminary information, a 67-year-old resident of Nizhny Tagil was driving a Lada toward Serov. The man was driving at an unsafe speed, lost control, the car skidded, after which it entered the oncoming lane and collided with a Hyundai Solaris. The Hyundai was driven by a 35-year-old resident of Yekaterinburg.
As a result of the crash, a 74-year-old Lada passenger who was sitting in the front seat and wearing a seat belt died at the scene before the ambulance arrived. The Hyundai driver sustained injuries; he was given medical assistance and sent home.
Checks showed that both drivers were sober. The Lada driver has 49 years of driving experience and had no prior offenses. The Hyundai driver has been driving for 7 years; during that time he committed four traffic violations.
At the crash site, inspectors identified shortcomings in road maintenance — loose snow had not been removed from the shoulder in time, and the shoulder itself was sunken. These conditions could have contributed to the accident. The contractor responsible for maintaining this section of the road was ordered to rectify the violations.
