A dog raised in Yekaterinburg set off to work at the edge of the world.
Labrador retriever Sparta flew from Yekaterinburg to Yelizovo Airport in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky just before the New Year. Since last summer she has been training with the canine unit at Koltsovo Airport, one of the oldest in the country.
The dog began training as a puppy: she was accustomed to the scents of explosives and to working amid noise and large crowds. Sparta successfully completed the basic course and received a clearance certificate. Local specialists will continue her training to suit conditions at Yelizovo.
At the new airport the service dog was warmly welcomed and given the pet name “Bulka.” She is currently adapting, getting to know the premises and her colleagues, and is being helped by an experienced mentor — the Labrador Inga. Canine handlers note the young dog's high motivation and good working qualities and are confident she will become a reliable member of Kamchatka airport’s security service.
