A town in Sverdlovsk Oblast was left without water and heat ahead of freezing temperatures.

Almost 11,000 residents of Sverdlovsk Oblast were left without heating due to a utility accident. In Kushva the operation of the boiler house was stopped, as a result of which hot water and heat stopped being supplied to 189 apartment buildings and 104 private houses, as well as to social facilities — kindergartens, schools and the district hospital. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), 10,990 people were left without heat.

The head of the Kushva municipal district, Mikhail Slepukhin, wrote that the cause was a leak in the heating main in the area of the houses at 17 Stroiteley Street and 18 Krasnoarmeyskaya Street. Due to the sudden drop in pressure the system had to be shut off. According to him, repair work is planned to be completed by 2:00 p.m.

A temporary shelter was set up at the sports school for the town’s residents.

Updated: The operation of the "Rudnichnaya" boiler house in Kushva has been restored, the Department of Information Policy of Sverdlovsk Oblast reports. Three boilers have been started in the boiler house; they are operating normally. Heat is returning to the homes.
