      Vladimir Putin signed a decree expanding the project to transition to a new national system of higher education. The Ural Federal University (UrFU) has been included among the participants in the experiment. The relevant document was published on the official legal information portal.

      In the 2026/27 admissions campaign UrFU will enroll first‑year students under the new rules. Instead of bachelor's and master's degrees, "basic higher" and "specialized higher education" are being introduced.

      "The university is ready to pilot the transition to the new model of higher education: we have assembled a strong team, studied the experience of participants in the first stage of the project, and carried out extensive preparatory work at the institute level," commented UrFU's acting rector Ilya Obabkov.

      The pilot project was originally planned through 2026 and has been extended by presidential decree until the 2029/2030 academic year. In addition to UrFU, the list of experiment participants was expanded by 10 universities, among them Tyumen State University (TyumGU), Bauman Moscow State Technical University, MIPT and others, writes the publication "Signal.
