Employees of the FSB of Russia for the Chelyabinsk region and operatives of the department for combating cybercrime of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region detained a suspect in the illegal use of a subscriber terminal for traffic bypassing or a virtual telephone station. This was reported the day before by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Chelyabinsk.
As a result of operational-search activities, employees of the regional FSB and the department for combating cyber fraud of the regional police headquarters identified a rented apartment where a SIM box with 32 slots was installed.
The detained suspect, a 22-year-old resident of the Tomsk region, explained that he received an offer for earning money via a messenger.
To organize the launch of the communication node, strangers remotely provided the young man with the necessary equipment, batches of SIM cards, as well as funds for renting apartments. After that, they also remotely instructed him on further work.
The young man provided illegal traffic for a month. At his temporary residence, operatives discovered and seized about 200 SIM cards, two routers, a laptop, and four mobile phones.
A criminal case has been initiated by the investigative authorities of the police under part 2 of article 274.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal use of a subscriber terminal for traffic bypassing), and the suspect has been taken into custody.
