An oncology hospital will be located at the Veterans Hospital on Shirokaya Rechka in Yekaterinburg.
In the Sverdlovsk region, it is planned to double the capacity of the daytime chemotherapy inpatient unit of the regional oncological dispensary. For this purpose, free spaces in the nearby veterans' hospital will be utilized, reports the regional department of information policy.
Based on the free spaces of the outpatient clinic of the veterans' hospital, which is within walking distance from the main building of the oncological center, a daytime inpatient unit will be established where chemotherapy will be conducted, said the chief physician of the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncological Dispensary (SROD), Yevgeny Kiselev.
Gradually, builders will renovate all the rooms on the sixth floor and open new wards, in each of which up to four patients will be able to receive chemotherapy simultaneously.
"This will allow us to increase the number of patients receiving specialized medical assistance at the same time. It is impossible to achieve this task in the main building of SROD due to a lack of space.
Thanks to the opening of the daytime inpatient unit in the hospital, it is planned to gradually increase the bed capacity from 45 to 90 places," Kiselev explained.
In April, the first wards, registration area, doctor's office, and a centralized chemotherapy drug preparation room with new equipment will begin operating in the areas transferred to the oncological center from the outpatient clinic—four additional laminar flow cabinets are being purchased for preparing medications.
In Sverdlovsk municipalities, 18 outpatient oncology assistance centers have been operating for several years, which also house daytime inpatient units for chemotherapy. Their operations will continue as usual.
