Emergency services conducted exercises on the under-construction M-12 highway "Yekaterinburg - Tyumen," practicing interaction to eliminate the consequences of a mass traffic accident, reported the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region. Such interagency drills are held several times a year.
Large-scale tactical-special exercises involving employees of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, rescuers, disaster medicine, and other emergency services took place on a 20 km stretch of the federal highway M-12 (Bypass of Beloyarsky). According to the scenario, a collision occurred involving seven vehicles, including a fuel tanker, a truck, and a passenger bus. According to the briefing, the driver of the fuel tanker failed to yield to vehicles on the main road when exiting from a secondary road, leading to a mass collision. Several people were trapped in the deformed vehicles.
The first to arrive at the simulated incident were traffic police inspectors, who assessed the situation and organized interaction with rescue units.
Rescuers used hydraulic tools to extract the victims trapped in the vehicles and promptly handed them over to ambulance crews.
The fuel tanker also sustained damage, with flammable liquid beginning to leak from the tank, creating a fire hazard. Firefighting units immediately began to contain the spill, treating the emergency area with foam.
Particular attention during the exercises was paid to adhering to the "golden hour" rule—the time within which seriously injured individuals must receive qualified assistance.
The entire rescue operation was completed within the regulatory time, confirming the high level of readiness and coordination of all involved services.
"Within the framework of these exercises, issues of interaction with all life support services and agencies were practiced, so that in real conditions, the actions of each unit would become automatic.
The personnel of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate who participated in the exercises demonstrated a high level of professionalism," said Alexander Volkov, head of the traffic police department of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region.
