In Yekaterinburg, there are plans to move the date of the City Day celebration.
The City Day in Yekaterinburg may change its date of celebration. The initiative to move it from the third Saturday of August to the first was proposed by the Museum of the History of Yekaterinburg, and the Public Chamber has already supported the proposal.
As reported by "Signal Ural," chamber member Sergey Fedyakov stated that historically the city was founded on November 18, 1723, but in 1987 the holiday was moved to August. It is now proposed to celebrate it on the first Saturday of the month.
Among the arguments is the possibility of keeping the city in a well-maintained condition for a longer time. Usually, preparations are completed by City Day, and with the move, residents will be able to enjoy a clean and comfortable urban environment during the summer period for a longer time.
The initiative has already been submitted for consideration to the city Duma. Previously, the topic of moving the date was raised due to the coincidence of the holiday with the Assumption Fast—this proposal was made by Archimandrite Germogen (Yeremeyev), urging to consider traditions.
