"A premeditated intent to murder an infant has arisen." A resident of Novouralsk has been convicted of killing his 2-month-old child.

      A resident of the Sverdlovsk closed administrative-territorial formation has been convicted of murdering his 2-month-old child, the Sverdlovsk region prosecutor's office reported on Tuesday. The criminal case was examined by the Sverdlovsk Regional Court.

      The state prosecutor presented evidence that on October 21, 2025, in the evening, Oleg Mikhailytsyn, born in 2001, a resident of the closed administrative-territorial formation of Novouralsk, was at home with his wife and their 2-month-old child in an apartment on Pervomayskaya Street.

      From birth until October 2025, the newborn had been in healthcare institutions due to prematurity and was discharged home only on October 13, 2025.

      Due to personal animosities, as well as the baby's restless behavior and crying, Mikhailytsyn developed a criminal intent to kill the infant.

      In carrying this out, the man inflicted at least 4 blows with his hands to the head area, at least 1 blow with his hand to the chest area, and at least one blow to the left leg of the infant.

      The child suffered severe blunt closed traumatic brain injury (complicated by the development of edema, compression of brain tissue, and fractures of the skull cap and base), as well as blunt closed chest trauma in the form of rib fractures and other injuries.

      That same evening, after sustaining the injuries, the child died.

      "The accused named Oleg had not previously been subjected to criminal liability. At the time of this horrific crime, he was working as an equipment operator in one of the commercial organizations," said Valery Gorelykh, head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region, to Uralweb.ru.

      "After information was received in the duty unit of the territorial police department that the infant's death was of a criminal nature, detectives from the criminal investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the closed administrative-territorial formation of Novouralsk and the Ural settlement began working with the suspected perpetrator. They helped our colleagues from the regional Investigative Committee of Russia bring the investigation to a logical conclusion."

      The man was found guilty under paragraph "v" of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of a minor, knowingly in a helpless state).

      The Sverdlovsk Regional Court sentenced Oleg Mikhailytsyn to 15 years in a strict regime colony, followed by 1.5 years of restriction of freedom.

      According to the conclusion of the expert commission, at the time of the crime, the convicted person could fully understand his actions and control them. The defendant himself did not admit his guilt in his final statement.
