"Spoke about the smell of gas." At the trial regarding the explosion on Sibirskaya in Nizhny Tagil, a doctor testified
April 16, 2026 In Nizhny Tagil, in the criminal case regarding the explosion in a five-story building on Sibirskaya, 81, the court on Wednesday, April 15, heard the testimony of a doctor who was one of the last to speak with 12-year-old Polina, the daughter of the apartment owner on the first floor, Elena Serbinova. This was reported by the news agency "All News."
The schoolgirl was in the apartment where, according to the investigation, the explosion occurred, and therefore she could tell the medics the most important details about its cause. Anesthesiologist-resuscitator Olga Ashatova arrived from Yekaterinburg on the day of the tragedy, August 1, 2024, as part of the team from the Center for Disaster Medicine. Burned Polina was pulled out alive 9 hours after the explosion. After administering pain relief, Olga Ashatova accompanied the girl in the ambulance to the children's hospital.
On the way to the hospital, the medics maintained a conversation with Polina so that she would not lose consciousness—asking about her favorite animals, what she dreams of becoming. The victim was fully conscious, as no sedative was administered, the witness explained to the court.
According to the witness, the girl was worried about her friends who were with her in the apartment and mentioned the smell of gas, reports "All News."
“She asked what happened to the other children she was with and spoke about the smell of gas. She said they were home, celebrating some event. She mentioned that one of the girls felt unwell, her head was spinning. The second girl, Anna, ran to the kitchen, and Polina tried to stop her. I remember Polina asking her to open the window, but the girl ran to the gas stove,” the doctor added.
Ashatova clarified that later, during the transfer of the child to artificial lung ventilation, soot was found in her mouth. Polina was transferred from Nizhny Tagil to DMB No. 9 in Yekaterinburg, where she was placed in a medically induced coma. Almost a month later, the girl died in the hospital. The charges against her mother, Elena Serbinova, are based, among other things, on the testimonies of the medics who last spoke with the daughter. The questioning of witnesses continues. By the morning of August 3, it became known that five children died in the collapsed building, including 14-year-old Anya and 7-year-old Denis, who happened to be there by chance. Of the 11 victims in this tragedy, more than half are children and teenagers.
The investigation into the gas explosion in the Tagil five-story building has been completed. The First Department for Particularly Important Cases of the Investigative Committee of the Sverdlovsk Region has completed the investigation into the criminal case regarding the gas explosion in a five-story building on Sibirskaya, 81 in Nizhny Tagil in August of last year, learned "KP-Yekaterinburg." As a result of the structural collapse, 11 people died, 6 of whom were children.
