      The former rector of Ural Federal University, Viktor Koksharov, has lost his new position as president of the university, reports "Ъ-Ural."

      Contracts with all vice-rectors and the president of UrFU were automatically terminated following the decision of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, to appoint the former director of the Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies-RTF (IRIT-RTF), Ilya Obabkov, as rector, "Ъ-Ural" was informed by the university.

      Koksharov "is currently in the position of advisor to the rector," they added. "The experience of the long-time head of the university, Viktor Koksharov, should be maximally useful in addressing the new tasks facing the university."

      Earlier this year, searches were conducted at the university, including in Viktor Koksharov's office. According to media reports, they were related to a criminal case regarding abuse of office (Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) — the sale of land plots of UrFU in the center of Yekaterinburg at undervalued prices.

      Viktor Koksharov has headed UrFU as rector since the establishment of Ural Federal University in 2010 until 2025.
