A large BMX track will be built in Bogdanovich, the largest in Russia.
The construction of the BMX race track is nearing completion at the "Fakel" stadium in Bogdanovich—a large-scale sports facility that will open new opportunities for the development of cycling sports in the region and the country.
Adjacent to the "Fakel" stadium, a multifunctional asphalt track for BMX cycling will be built, measuring 320 meters in length—the largest in the region and in Russia, meeting national and international competition standards.
It is here that the All-Russian Spartakiad of the strongest will take place in 2026 in two disciplines: supercross (with a starting ramp height of 5 meters) and classic (with a starting ramp height of 9 meters). The competitions will be held in August, with the participation of over 12,000 athletes expected. The Spartakiad of the strongest-2026 will serve as the main qualifying stage for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
The project was developed with the participation of designer Takamasa Sampei, who was involved in the design and construction of the competition area (Field of Play) at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The inspiration for creating the BMX track in Bogdanovich came from Sampei-san's personal experience as a rider and the request to create a track in the SX (Supercross) style. The designer refers to the track in Bogdanovich as "compact SX-style"—which means that the track is dense and fast, leaving no time for the racer to rest.
"One of the main technical challenges was to create an exciting track in a very limited space. We carefully balanced the overall idea of the track, rhythm, and technical sections to make the track as dynamic as possible. Since the track is compact, the jumps themselves are not very large. However, this compactness requires the athlete to have the highest speed of reaction and control at high speeds, making the track quite challenging and interesting," said Takamasa Sampei.
The space will be fully equipped for high-level competitions: stands for spectators will be installed next to the site, and it will be equipped with lighting and a surveillance system. Additionally, the area around the track will be improved—on days free from events, residents and guests of the city will be able to enjoy the updated stadium space and the sports atmosphere.
