The former coach of "Avtomobilist" named the reason for the team's failure in the Gagarin Cup.
Former coach of "Avtomobilist" Nikolai Zavarukhin, who lost his job after the first round of the playoffs, named the reason for the failure, reports "KP-Ekaterinburg."
The ex-coach spoke at the final press conference of the "drivers" management via video link.
— This year I expected more from the team's leaders. Not just one line to lead the matches. In the last minutes of the last game, perhaps I put out the wrong line in the end. I regret that we couldn't get past "Salavat Yulaev." The task was set back in the summer - to fight for the Gagarin Cup, - said Nikolai Zavarukhin during the press conference.
For his part, "Avtomobilist" director Maxim Ryabkov thanked the specialist for many years of conscientious work.
He reminded that under Zavarukhin, "Avtomobilist" won bronze for the first time [in the KHL championship for the 2023/2024 season] (the team reached the semifinals of the Gagarin Cup - note from Uralweb.ru). "There were no such achievements before," noted Ryabkov.
Nikolai Zavarukhin first joined the coaching staff of "Avtomobilist" in 2017, recalls "KP-Ekaterinburg." He worked for two and a half seasons as an assistant head coach, and then, after a two-year break, took over the coaching staff in 2021.
At the end of the current 2025/26 season, the club's management decided to part ways with the coach. In the first round of the playoffs, "Avtomobilist" lost to Ufa's "Salavat Yulaev" with an overall score of 2:4.
The new head coach is Alexey Kudashov, who previously led "Dynamo" (Moscow) for four years.
