Honorary citizen of the Ural capital, veteran of the Great Patriotic War Valentina Batkova passed away in Yekaterinburg at the age of 101. The city council expressed condolences to Valentina Georgievna's family and friends on April 24.
Valentina Georgievna was born in 1924 in the village of Vtoroe Nikolskoye. Shortly after finishing school in 1941, she, along with her friends, was drafted into the army, reports the administration of the Kirovsky district of Yekaterinburg. The girl ended up at the Red Banner Military Aviation Technical School in Moscow, from which she graduated with the rank of sergeant major. She then worked as a meteorologist for 14 to 16 hours a day, preparing combat flights, the success of which largely depended on the accuracy of weather data.
Valentina Georgievna met Victory in the city of Stryi on the border with Poland. She was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War II class and medals for combat merit.
After the war, she moved to Sverdlovsk with her husband, where she graduated from a cooperative technical school and worked as an accountant at a reinforced concrete products factory until her retirement. The title of Honorary Citizen of the city was awarded to Valentina Batkova along with other participants of the Great Patriotic War registered in the Ural capital. The decision was made by the Yekaterinburg City Duma on the eve of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in 2025.
