In Yekaterinburg, a former traffic police inspector has been convicted of accepting a bribe from a drunk driver.
The sentence for the former senior inspector of the DPS of the GIBDD of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region, Farit Agzamov, was handed down on Tuesday, April 28, by the Chkalovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg, reports the Prosecutor's Office of the Sverdlovsk region. The state prosecutor presented evidence to the court of the accused receiving a bribe.
Inspector of the GIBDD's Patrol and Inspection Service Agzamov and his accomplice (his criminal case has been separated into a separate proceeding) were on duty as part of a traffic patrol crew near a bus stop complex in the village of Zeleny Bor during the daytime on May 8, 2024.
They stopped a "Renault Logan" vehicle, whose driver exhibited visual signs of alcohol intoxication. In exchange for not holding him accountable under the law, Agzamov and his accomplice decided to receive monetary compensation from him as a bribe in the amount of the administrative fine stipulated by Article 12.28 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (driving a vehicle while intoxicated), for each of them.
The driver agreed to this. On the same day, he transferred 30,000 rubles to Agzamov in two parts.
The defendant was found guilty under paragraphs "a" and "b" of part 5 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe in a significant amount by a group of individuals by prior agreement, with extortion of a bribe).
The Chkalovsky District Court sentenced Farit Agzamov to 9 years in a strict regime colony, a fine of 300,000 rubles (10 times the amount of the bribe received), with a 3-year disqualification from holding positions in government bodies related to the functions of a representative of authority, and the deprivation of his special rank of senior lieutenant. The amount of the bribe received, totaling 30,000 rubles, was recovered by the court for the benefit of the state.
