Awarded the title of "Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation" by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Semen Isaakovich (Shlema Itskovich) Spektor has been heading the Public Council under the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region for over 20 years. This was reported on Tuesday by the press service of the penitentiary agency.
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Honored Doctor of the RSFSR, member of the regional Public Chamber, Shlema Itskovich Spektor has been actively participating in the activities of the Public Council under the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region for 20 years.
"Over these years, he has provided significant assistance to the penitentiary agency in addressing issues related to the social rehabilitation of convicts, as well as improving the working conditions of employees of the penal enforcement system," the Federal Penitentiary Service reported.
Nevertheless, the main focus of Semen Spektor's efforts has always been medicine.
He became a student at the Sverdlovsk State Medical Institute in 1961. Six years later, he began working as a resident physician in the 1st neurosurgery department of the Sverdlovsk Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital for War Veterans. From 1973 to 2004, he held the position of head of the hospital.
He performed about 1,360 surgeries for the removal of subdural hematomas, 670 for the removal of malignant tumors of the spinal cord and brain, and numerous surgeries for the removal of herniated discs.
Honorary citizen of Yekaterinburg, honorary citizen of the Sverdlovsk Region, Semen Isaakovich (Shlema Itskovich) Spektor was born on July 25, 1936, in the village of Kryzhopol in the Ukrainian SSR. At the age of five, he, along with his family, fell into the zone of German occupation and spent three years in a ghetto. When Soviet troops approached the village, the Germans decided to destroy the prisoners but did not succeed. The village was liberated in March 1944.
