In Yekaterinburg on May 15, the centenary was celebrated by the Honorary Citizen of the city and Sverdlovsk region, veteran of the Great Patriotic War Dmitry Nikolaevich Suvorov, reports the UralLIVE channel in MAX.
During the war, Guards Colonel Dmitry Nikolaevich Suvorov was a scout. In the summer of 1944, he was one of the first to enter Minsk on his Lend-Lease "Harley."
"The Germans were already paralyzed morally and fled. And we shot at them with machine gun fire in pursuit," recalls the veteran.
Dmitry Suvorov was awarded the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War II class, and the medals "For Courage," "For Military Merit," "For the Capture of Königsberg," and "For Victory over Germany."
The jubilarian was congratulated by the military commandant of Yekaterinburg, Ruslan Akhmadishin, who accompanied Dmitry Nikolaevich during the celebrations.
On this day, the front-line soldier honored the memory of his fallen comrades by laying flowers at the monument to motorcycle scouts and also attended a ceremonial event organized at the district Officers' House.
"Hundreds of people came to congratulate the veteran. A book based on the scout's memoirs was presented for the significant date. Guests of the celebration were shown the play 'Where the Motherland Begins,'" writes UralLIVE.
For his part, the presidential envoy of Russia in the Urals Federal District, Artyom Zhoga, presented the veteran with a watch featuring the battalion "Sparta" insignia, which continues the fight against Nazism as part of the special operation of the RF Armed Forces in Ukraine.
"I met Dmitry Nikolaevich last spring. I was impressed that, despite his advanced age, he is full of energy, closely follows the news and the course of the special military operation, participates in public events, and is interested in military history," wrote Artyom Zhoga on his channel in MAX.
"The veteran made an invaluable contribution to the Great Victory: during the liberation of Belarus, he found a safe route into occupied Minsk, which allowed Soviet troops to enter the city," the Ural envoy, himself a participant in the special military operation, told his subscribers.
"I presented the front-line soldier with a personalized watch featuring the battalion 'Sparta' insignia and wishes from the soldiers for good health and long life," Zhoga reported. "Such people are the pride of Russia!"
