The bullet will search for weapons in Koltsovo.
A new unusual employee has appeared at Koltsovo International Airport - a Russian hunting spaniel named Pulya. The young dog is being prepared for service by specialists from the airport's canine unit, and in the future, she will assist in the search for weapons and prohibited substances.
Participants of excursions held as part of the "Museum Night in Yekaterinburg" event have already met the four-legged "detector." Despite her young age, Pulya is already demonstrating good results in training.
As the head of the airport's canine service, Irina Kalugina, explained, the use of compact dogs in work is still a new direction for Koltsovo. Previously, several border collies began service at the airport, and now specialists have decided to test the capabilities of the Russian hunting spaniel.
According to Kalugina, Pulya's small size gives her an advantage when working in confined spaces - for example, on board an airplane. Additionally, such dogs tire less and expend less energy while maintaining excellent scenting abilities.
Pulya is being trained by canine inspector Natalia Lapaeva. She notes that the dog has a very high play motivation, which is especially important for service training.
"Any object in a person's hands becomes a toy for her. It is this desire to seek and find that allows for effective training of the dog to detect the necessary items and substances," the canine specialist explained.
According to the specialists, Pulya fully justifies her name: the dog is characterized by high speed, activity, and loves to attract attention with impressive jumps.
Currently, the spaniel has already completed the socialization stage - she has gotten used to the noise of the terminals and the airfield. In the next stage of training, the canine specialists are working with her on scent detection. The airport notes that Pulya confidently inspects luggage and strives to check literally every bag.
After completing her training, the dog will undergo certification and will be able to take on full-duty shifts at the airport.
