The vaccine for tick-borne encephalitis for individuals over 60 years old has arrived at Sverdlovsk clinics.
More than 96,000 doses of the tick-borne encephalitis vaccine have been delivered to the Sverdlovsk region for residents over 60 years old, reports the Department of Information Policy. The free vaccination of older Sverdlovsk residents is planned to resume next week.
Epidemiologists in the Sverdlovsk region emphasize that residents have enough time for specific prevention. "You can get vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis throughout the year. The most important thing afterward is to avoid encounters with ticks for two weeks while antibodies are being produced and immunity is forming after the vaccine is administered. I am confident that even the most avid gardeners will be able to find time for the prevention of this dangerous disease," said Alexander Kharitonov, the chief freelance epidemiologist of the Sverdlovsk region's Ministry of Health.
As of today, more than 8,300 requests for medical assistance due to tick bites have been registered in the region. This is 34% lower than the figure for the same period in 2025 and 23% below the average long-term level.
21 residents of Sverdlovsk have been hospitalized with suspected tick-borne encephalitis, and another 41 with suspected Lyme disease. If a tick has attached to the skin, it is safest to have it removed by medical professionals. Medical assistance for tick bites in trauma centers or emergency departments of medical institutions at the place of residence is provided free of charge with the presence of a compulsory medical insurance policy and a passport.
Sending the arthropod to the laboratory for testing for tick-borne infections is conducted at the citizen's own expense.
The decision on the necessity of administering anti-tick immunoglobulin is made by the physician of the medical organization.
