The ultramarathon "The Cuckoo Has Gone" will take place for the second time near Nizhny Tagil.
A large sports festival, the central event of which will be a 65-kilometer ultramarathon called "The Cuckoo Has Gone," will take place on June 7 in the vicinity of Nizhny Tagil.
The route of the ultradistance (an "ultra" is any race longer than the classic marathon distance of 42 km 195 m) of 65 kilometers is laid along the former narrow-gauge railway, reports the portal v-tagile.ru.
In Russia, the term "Cuckoo" referred to narrow-gauge railways. In the Urals, "Cuckoo" is also the name of the Demidov narrow-gauge railway, which began with the section from Nizhny Tagil to Visimo-Utkinsk, built in the late 19th century.
The "bird" name originated from the first letters of the series of locomotives produced by the German company "Karlsruhe" - "KA" and "KU," reports "Tagilsky Rabochy" in a large historical essay.
The event will take place for the second time. The start will be at the observation deck of the Vysokogorsky quarry, and the finish will be in the village of Visimo-Utkinsk. Along the way, marathon runners will encounter fords and packrafts (compact inflatable rowing boats).
In addition to the ultradistance, distances of 5, 10, and 21 kilometers have been developed for participants of varying fitness levels, a 5-kilometer "Avrorinskaya" trail around Mount Belaya for fans of Nordic walking, a 1-kilometer race for children aged 4 to 16, as well as a fun (English: fun - amusement, entertainment, joke) start of 500 meters.
This year, athletes with disabilities will participate in the races for the first time. According to the organizers, more than 200 people from various regions of Russia have already registered to participate.
