Thousands of Yekaterinburg residents will switch to bicycles en masse on May 30.
In Yekaterinburg, on Saturday, May 30, the annual bicycle festival "Velomay" will take place. The start and finish of all routes will be organized in the territory of the Central Park of Culture and Recreation named after V. Mayakovsky.
Participants will be offered four distances of varying lengths. The shortest route, 20 kilometers long, will pass through the Business District, the Park of Russian Foresters, the Ramada area, and TrehOzerka. It will take two to three hours to complete.
For more experienced cyclists, the organizers have prepared routes of 50, 75, and 100 kilometers. The average distance will go through Novokoltsovsky, Compressor, Small and Big Istok, as well as the Nizhneisetsk Forest Park. The long route will additionally cover Aramil, Bobrovsky, and the panoramic peak of the city. The longest, 100-kilometer distance will also pass through Tokarevo, Cherdantsevo, Kadnikovo, and Shaidurovo. Depending on the chosen route, travel time will range from three to eleven hours.
The organizers recommend that participants bring a supply of water or a bottle for refilling at checkpoints, protection against ticks and mosquitoes, a headgear, and a raincoat. The use of a bicycle helmet remains at the discretion of the participants.
The "Velomay" festival is a continuation of the traditions of the "May Walk" - a mass pedestrian event that has been held in Yekaterinburg since 1984 and annually gathers lovers of active recreation and weekend hiking.
