Sverdlovsk oncologists operated on a man with a giant liposarcoma of the neck, reports the "Health of Ural Residents" channel of the regional health ministry in MAH.
According to the patient, about 9 months ago he noticed a small lump that did not cause discomfort. The Yekaterinburg resident began to worry when it became impossible to ignore the tumor—it had grown to weigh two kilograms.
"I immediately turned to the surgeons at my place of residence," says the man.
After the initial diagnostic stage at the district clinic, the man was referred to the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncology Dispensary.
Liposarcomas of the neck are rare tumors, accounting for 1-2% of all malignant tumors in this location. Due to their rapid growth and infiltration into neighboring organs and tissues, they pose a serious danger.
This clinical case is an example: the tumor on the posterior lateral surface of the neck had managed to invade the muscles, branches of the cervical plexus, targeted the spine, and the major vessels supplying the brain. Delaying treatment was fraught with an increased risk of stroke, impairment of motor functions, and sensitivity.
In two hours of surgery, the tumor was completely removed.
