In Yekaterinburg, two five-month-old Himalayan bear cubs arrived on a flight from Vladivostok operated by Ural Airlines, having been orphaned after their parents were killed by poachers.
The cubs, named Forest and Himalaya, were born in January 2026. After their parents were killed by poachers, the cubs were discovered by specialists from the Animal Protection Center of the NGO "Tiger." For several months, the little ones were under the care of the center's staff.
Now the cubs will continue their rehabilitation at the Animal Protection Center "Alpha" in the village of Novoiipatovo in the Sysert district of the Sverdlovsk region. Their condition will be monitored by zoologists and veterinarians, who will take care of the animals and prepare them for further life in the center's conditions.
According to the airline, special conditions were created for the transportation of the animals. The cubs were placed in a ventilated and heated compartment, where the temperature was maintained at around +20 degrees throughout the flight.
According to Kirill Potapov, the founder of the "Alpha" rehabilitation center, after undergoing mandatory quarantine and veterinary examination, the cubs went to their new home, where they will live with six other Himalayan bears. The center houses more than 150 animals in total.
Specialists note that due to the early loss of their parents, it is already impossible to return Forest and Himalaya to the wild. Therefore, they will be provided with semi-wild conditions of captivity that are as close to natural as possible.
The cubs are currently feeling well, settling into their new place, and actively playing with each other.
