The need for "panic buttons" has arisen in public transport in Yekaterinburg.
In the buses of the municipal enterprise "Gortrans" in Yekaterinburg, panic buttons for emergency calls to the police may be installed. This decision is being considered by the company after an attack on the driver of one of the city routes. Reports "Signal Ural".
The incident occurred late in the evening on June 20. According to the enterprise, the driver of bus route No. 67 was finishing the last trip and left the "Retail Park" stop towards the bus station at 23:22. At the "Military" stop, a group of five young people, who, according to the municipal enterprise, were in a state of alcohol intoxication, entered the bus.
Upon arrival at the final stop, the driver asked the passengers to leave the bus. According to the transport company's version, the young people approached the driver's cabin and provoked a conflict. During the fight, they used fists and a stun gun, and the bus also sustained damage.
"Gortrans" stated that the driver was forced to defend himself, after which he independently went to the nearest police station and did not attempt to hide.
The enterprise emphasized that installing panic buttons would allow drivers to quickly call law enforcement officers in critical situations and could prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Yekaterinburg city administration reported that the participants in the conflict were minors, were intoxicated, smoked in the bus cabin, and damaged the video surveillance system equipment.
"Gortrans" also noted that there are female drivers among the company's employees and stated the need to strengthen security measures for all workers finishing shifts late at night.
The vice-mayor of Yekaterinburg called the absence of conductors one of the reasons for hooliganism on the buses.
