In Yekaterinburg, starting from August 1, new "Castors" will be put into service on the 16 tram route.
Route No. 16 "Akademika Parina - 40 Years of VLKSM" is planned to have 7 new low-floor "Castors" directed to it, which will increase the class of rolling stock and reduce the interval of movement to 11 - 14 minutes. Photo: Averina Yulia.
Tram route No. 16 "Volgogradskaya - UrFU" will be redirected to the final stop "Akademika Parina," and the route will also be extended to the stop "40 Years of VLKSM." This will help alleviate passenger flow from the Kirovsky district and improve transportation accessibility in the Akademichesky district and the ZBI microdistrict.
Additionally, starting from August 1, 2026, the principle of "shuttle service" will be introduced for trams No. 12, 16, 23, and bus No. 83 in Yekaterinburg. The changes aim to enhance the quality of passenger service.
In particular, tram route No. 12 "Sports Palace - 40 Years of VLKSM" will be redirected to the final stop "Shartash." This will help relieve passenger flow from the Pioneer microdistrict. Trams No. 8, 13, 15, 23, buses No. 49, 54, 054, 61, 77, 82, 94, and trolleybus No. 25 will continue to operate on this section of the route.
Furthermore, to improve transportation services in the Shartash microdistrict, route No. 12 will be directed along Lunacharsky Street (to cover the canceled section of tram route No. 16).
In addition, due to the cancellation of the duplicating and less in-demand tram route No. 20 "TsPKiO-Shartash" (where trams No. 3, 4, 6, 12 operate), rolling stock will be redirected to the modified route No. 12 "Sports Palace - Shartash." This will allow for an increase in the number of vehicles and improve the regularity of movement to 17 - 20 minutes.
