The Veterans Hospital on Shirokaya Rechka has been named after Semyon Spektor.
The Sverdlovsk Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital for War Veterans officially bears the name of Semyon Isaakovich Spector as of July 1.
The decision to name the hospital in Shirokaya Rechka after the neurosurgeon who headed the institution from 1973 to 2004, now the honorary chief of the hospital, was made by the governor of Sverdlovsk region, Denis Pasler, reports the Information Portal of Yekaterinburg.
The naming of the hospital is timed to two dates: the 85th anniversary of the hospital, which will be celebrated in October, and the 90th anniversary of Semyon Isaakovich himself, which the legendary doctor will celebrate on July 25.
Semyon Spector, a native of the Vinnytsia region of the Ukrainian SSR, who experienced the German occupation in his childhood, arrived in Sverdlovsk region at the age of 22—he was drafted into the army in 1958 and sent to the Ural Military District. The recruit was assigned to a combined sapper battalion stationed in Yelani. He completed his military service with the rank of sergeant.
In 1961, Semyon Spector enrolled in the medical faculty of Sverdlovsk State Medical Institute and, six years later, became a resident doctor in the 1st neurosurgery department of the Sverdlovsk Psychoneurological Hospital, where veterans of the Great Patriotic War were treated.
This year, Semyon Spector was awarded the title and medal of "Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation."
