In the Sverdlovsk region, tornadoes have mowed down 1,500 hectares of forest.
Specialists discovered traces of several tornadoes in the Sverdlovsk region that occurred on June 22 in the area of Kushva. The hurricane affected much more territory than previously thought—the total area of fallen forest exceeded 1500 hectares. This data was published by the Telegram channel "Dangerous Natural Phenomena of the Perm Region."
According to the TG channel, the reason for the reassessment of the scale was new satellite photographs. Specialists received a fresh, almost cloudless image of the Kushva area from one of the Sentinel-2 satellites, taken on July 7. With this, they identified three previously unknown tornado windfalls.
One of them is located to the southeast of Nizhnyaya Tura, its area is 169 hectares, the length of the path is 10.1 kilometers, and the maximum width is 561 meters. Two more localized windfalls are located south of the village of Vya, about 45 kilometers east of the trajectory of the main tornado.
The Kushva tornado itself traveled 29.5 kilometers. The area of the windfall it caused is 840 hectares, and the maximum width is 1080 meters.
Another weak tornado passed south of Karpinsk. The total area of forest fall from all the tornadoes on June 22 turned out to be much larger than previously indicated—over 1500 hectares. In total, there are six tornadoes of varying intensity, writes Ura.Ru.
Earlier, a climatologist from UrFU explained the conditions that led to the formation of the tornado in Kushva.
