In the Sverdlovsk region, the most expensive berry in Russia has ripened.
In the Sverdlovsk region, cloudberries, known as the "royal berry," have ripened earlier than usual. The reason is the early warm spring, rainy summer, and a large amount of moisture, said Elena Terentyeva, an experienced mushroom picker and berry collector, to URA.RU.
According to her, cloudberries usually start to ripen at the end of July, but this year the season began earlier. A similar situation is observed with other forest gifts—mushrooms, strawberries, and cherries have also started to ripen ahead of schedule.
Cloudberries can be found in the Pervouralsky, Rezhsky, Asbestovsky, Nevyansk, Beloyarsky, and Alapaevsky districts, as well as in the northern part of the region, near Severouralsk.
Cloudberries are considered the most expensive wild berry in Russia—the price per kilogram can reach 6,000 rubles. The high price is explained by the fact that the berry grows in hard-to-reach swampy areas, ripens for a short time, and does not transport well.
