August 2, 2026 The Ordzhonikidze District Court of Yekaterinburg on Saturday, August 1, arrested Alexander Kurs, who shot at an 11-year-old boy from the building of the former "Madrid" hotel on Mashinostroiteley Street. The man does not have the status of a private security guard, reports the unified press service of the courts of the Sverdlovsk region.
According to the investigation, on the evening of July 28, on Mashinostroiteley Street, 4 (the building of the former "Madrid" hotel), he fired at least 4 times at the 11-year-old boy, according to investigators from the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, using a pneumatic rifle.
As a result, the minor victim sustained bruised wounds to his back and ear.
Alexander Kurs is charged under part 2 of article 330 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - "Self-will committed with the use of weapons." The alleged weapon of the crime - a pneumatic rifle - has been seized, and a ballistic examination has been appointed, the regional Investigative Committee of Russia reported.
Considering the investigator's petition, the court chose arrest as a preventive measure for the accused until September 29 inclusive. The court's ruling will come into legal force unless appealed by the parties within 3 days. "The court made the indicated decision, agreeing with the arguments of the investigator of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation that the accused may hide from the investigation and the court, destroy evidence, exert pressure on the victim and witnesses, and otherwise obstruct the proceedings in the criminal case," the investigators' message states.
It was previously reported that a criminal case regarding the shooting was initiated under the article "Hooliganism."
In May, it became known that the court mitigated the sentence of another gun owner, Roman Stadler, who was convicted for shooting near the Great Zlatoust Temple in Yekaterinburg.
