The tornado in the Sverdlovsk region has become the strongest in decades.

      The tornado in Kushva could have been one of the strongest in Russia in half a century. The conclusions of the researcher are reported by the Telegram channel "Meteorological Diary. Weather News."

      The tornado that struck Kushva at the end of June could have been significantly more powerful than specialists initially thought. Initially, the tornado was assigned a category of F3, but further research showed that its strength could have reached the level of F4.

      If the assessment is confirmed, the Kushva tornado will be among the most powerful documented tornadoes in Russia in the last 50 years.

      The study was conducted shortly after the event by meteorologist Igor Azhigov, who specializes in tornado research. He, in particular, examined the most damaged house in the city.

      It was a wooden log house that had been reconstructed a few years ago and securely anchored on a solid concrete foundation with the help of anchors. However, the tornado destroyed the structure almost completely. Moreover, the storm even uprooted the buried brick foundation, which was poured with concrete.

      Some heavy parts of the house were thrown a significant distance away. Nearby, specialists also discovered a section where the tornado literally stripped away the topsoil.

      According to the scientist, the center of the tornado likely passed almost directly over the house. This explains the unusual picture: the house itself was completely destroyed, while the trees nearby in the garden survived.

      Calculations showed that such destruction requires wind speeds of over 380 km/h. This corresponds to the indicators of category F4 - a "devastating" tornado.
