On August 13, 2026, in Yekaterinburg, police detained a young man suspected of working as a courier for phone scammers. The victim of the criminals was a local resident who handed over 1.575 million rubles to the perpetrators.

The man received a call from unknown individuals who informed him that money was allegedly being transferred from his account to an unfriendly state. To "secure" his savings, he was instructed to sell his car and hand over the proceeds to a courier. As a result, the victim gave 1,575,000 rubles to an unfamiliar young man on Krasnolesya Street.
Operatives identified the courier and detained him on August 11. He turned out to be a resident of the Moscow region born in 2008. According to the police, he had previously posted a job advertisement online, after which he was contacted by individuals claiming to represent a company in need of a courier.
The young man was tasked with picking up money and documents at specified addresses and then leaving them in hiding places. For one order, he was promised up to 5,000 rubles. For this "job," he traveled from the Moscow region to Yekaterinburg.
According to the detainee, he had picked up money from city residents at least three times. At the same time, the young man claimed that he was confident in the legality of his actions.
A criminal case has been initiated against him under the article "Fraud on a particularly large scale." The maximum penalty for this article is up to 10 years of imprisonment.
The police urged especially young people to be cautious regarding job offers on the internet. The agency warns that vacancies related to the transportation of money and valuables or the delivery of suspicious items may lead to involvement in a criminal offense.
