The city hall explained why tram stops in Yekaterinburg are narrower than bus stops.
In Yekaterinburg, the update of the transport infrastructure continues. The contracting organization "Uraltermoplast-Stroy" is continuing the installation of new bus shelters, reports the press service of the Yekaterinburg mayor's office.
Since the end of May, 84 modern bus stops for buses, trolleybuses, and trams have already been installed in the Ural capital. They are located in all districts of the city.
The exact addresses where the new stops have appeared can be viewed on a special map. By September 25, another 61 locations will be added to it.
The dimensions of the bus stops are 4.61 x 1.75 x 2.2 meters. Their sketches were prepared by specialists from the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Land Relations Regulation of the Yekaterinburg Administration. Based on these, the design documentation was subsequently developed.
"The project takes into account the weather conditions of the region and the opinions of residents: these shelters are deeper, longer, and wider than the previous ones, making it more comfortable to shelter from rain and snow while waiting for transport," the city administration reported in July.
Double shelters are being installed on the most heavily trafficked routes.
"The tram stops are slightly narrower: their dimensions are 4.61 x 1 x 2.2 meters. The difference is related to the smaller depth of tram platforms compared to bus and trolleybus stops," the mayor's office explained.
A contract for the installation of about 200 bus shelters, scheduled for two years, was signed with the contracting organization in May of this year. Most of them—128—will be installed this year, reported in July Elena Valova, head of the road management and landscaping department of the Yekaterinburg Administration.
Recall that earlier a resident of Yekaterinburg pointed out that the tram stops in the city are too narrow, which is especially noticeable when compared to the width of the sidewalks. She urged the city authorities to think about how to make waiting for the tram more comfortable.
Three years ago, the mayor's office named public transport number one—the one that carries the most passengers in Yekaterinburg. At the same time, the electric transport network in Yekaterinburg is one of the largest in the country, as Yekaterinburg's head Alexey Orlov mentioned at a press conference.
