A couple from Yekaterinburg tried to smuggle rings worth 2.6 million rubles.
Customs officers stopped a married couple at Koltsovo Airport who brought with them three rings with precious stones. The Ural residents arrived from Phuket, and during the inspection, jewelry items were discovered in their possession.
The man explained to the customs officers that he makes jewelry himself, and these rings are old, so he decided not to declare the goods.
— The examination established the opposite. The items turned out to be new and made of 925 silver. The inlays are sapphires, garnets, and tourmalines. The total value of the jewelry amounted to 2.6 million rubles, the press service of the Ural Customs Administration noted.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident under the article "Smuggling of strategically important goods committed by a group." Under this article, the couple faces imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of up to one million rubles.
