      Rospotrebnadzor conducted an unscheduled inspection of the quality of cold water in Yekaterinburg after numerous complaints from residents and media publications about a sharp deterioration in its quality at the beginning of August.       The inspection took place from August 3 to August 19 and covered the Western filtration station, the main water treatment facilities, and five water distribution columns.

      Specialists found exceedances of standards in several indicators. In particular, this concerns the coloration of water, manganese, iron, aluminum, turbidity, and permanganate oxidation. Additionally, in some samples, exceedances of generalized coliform bacteria were detected. Even after water treatment, the standards for manganese, aluminum, and permanganate oxidation remained exceeded.

      Earlier, the "Vodokanal" linked the deterioration of water quality to abnormal precipitation and the wind-driven uplift of bottom sediments that began on July 23.

      As a result of the inspection, Rospotrebnadzor issued a directive to the municipal unitary enterprise "Vodokanal" to eliminate the violations and reported the enterprise's involvement in administrative responsibility. The agency also sent proposals to the administration of Yekaterinburg for improving the sanitary and epidemiological situation.

      Rospotrebnadzor separately reminded that consumers have the right to demand recalculation for poorly provided utility services, including the supply of drinking water that does not meet established requirements.

      Problems with cold water supply in Yekaterinburg began after eight filters at the water treatment station went out of service on August 7. As a result, the pressure in the system decreased, and some microdistricts were left simultaneously without cold and hot water.
